Spirit of a Lion

Lion - 640 x 480

The below video clip is a yet another memorable American Idol performance — this time from Zoenette Johnson, a refugee from Liberia, who escaped violent revolution as a young girl.  Up to this point, many had questioned her talent and had difficulty relating her unconventional expression of emotion, which she tends to unabashedly wear on her sleeve . . . well no more.

Here is an instance of living in the moment and imparting an infectious spirit of a lion — for in the fleeting minutes of this captivating performance, one can vicariously experience the feeling of being King or Queen of the Jungle, and perhaps embrace the belief YOU can accomplish anything.  [A brief advertisement precedes this performance.]

Find Tranquility

The River Flows in You - 640 x 434

“Keep your lows high and your highs low”

. . . but this can be challenging to do in a society that seems to celebrate sensationalism, while offering its fair share of tribulations and sources of stress.

One way keep this sense of intrinsic balance is to frequently engage your senses with things that relax you, bring you peace and an overall sense of contentment.  It can be as simple as looking out at the ocean or observing the beauty of a flower, while being thankful for the opportunity to take in such magnificence.  Many turn to the practice of yoga to bring inner tranquility, where the word “namaste” is frequently uttered.  This is an expression of respect for others and a reminder that we are one — this helps keep things in perspective.

Namaste - 640 x 247

Others find that music touches their soul in a way that brings the tranquility they seek.  To this end, I hope the soundtrack “River Flows In You” by the pianist Yiruma and the accompanying images in the below video help you find inner tranquility . . . Namaste.

Careful Planning . . .

Careful Planning2

. . . makes what was once thought impossible, now possible.

And there are some endeavors that carry significant downside risk, such that ANY mistake will likely be the last one made, and thus require especially fastidious forethought.  Take, for example, Alexander Polli, a wingsuit flyer who daringly undertakes self-procreated challenges that literally stare death in the face and require an unimaginable degree of advanced preparation, precision and courage . . . or craziness — here is one such example:

Something Good Coming

Something Good Coming

Thoughts are omnipotently powerful, and if you have read The Secret and The Power by Rhonda Byrne, you have an appreciation for how and why this is the case.  Thoughts can travel great distances at the blink of an eye and overcome any and all barriers.

Through the Law of Attraction, what you think most about is attracted toward you, be it good or bad . . . most especially when you emotionally feel it.  And the most effective way of cultivating that which is “good” in your life (i.e., what makes you feel happy) is to live with an “attitude of gratitude” for everything you already have TODAY.  And you can build on this happiness by using your imagination to visualize what you desire most and begin to feel it — for then it is only a matter of time when it shall come to pass.

“If you see it in your mind, you’re going to hold it in your hand.”  [Bob Proctor]

Thoughts become things.”  [Mike Dooley]

Everything we think and feel is creating our future”  [Marci Shimoff]

Your thoughts and feelings create your life”  [Lisa Nichols]

Whatever we think about and thank about we bring about”  [Dr. John DeMartini]

Visualizing is the great secret of success”  [Genevieve Behrend]

Imagination is everything . . . the preview of life’s coming attractions.”  [Albert Einstein]

So if you begin to believe that there’s something good coming and hold this belief foremost in your thoughts, SO IT SHALL BE.  The below performance by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers melodically conveys this sentiment in a beautifully captivating manner, so please enjoy it and start thinking that there’s “something good coming”.

Comedy As Panacea For Frustration

1

As you will note in “Applying the Concepts”, an often over-looked, but important element of one’s self-actualization journey is the ability to laugh often.  This is particularly true when having to contend with frustrating  circumstances where one feels powerless to remedy anytime soon.  The below skit from Comedy Central’s “Important Things” hilariously illustrates the dynamics of dealing with a demanding customer and features comedians Demetri Martin and Jon Benjamin.

Here’s the setting:  Three website designers are on a conference call with a client, whose history of vague instructions have resulted in much wasted effort, and thus a high level of frustration among the website design team.  They’ve submitted many iterations of a contemplated website design; however, at this point, the client is not only displeased with their latest efforts .  . . he implies their progress in now going in reverse.  How they choose to respond to this customer’s latest feedback is where the hilarity begins.

Those who have had to deal with an “impossible-to-please” customer on a conference call should be able to readily empathize, and understand there are unexpected dynamics with an inexperienced associate on the call, where even the most carefully crafted agenda can suddenly take on a life of its own.

Warning – Risk of Soiling:  This situation comedy video clip should NOT be watched by those with “weak” or otherwise “full” bladders.

Be Unstoppable

Unstoppable

As you travel your wondrous journey toward self-actualization (i.e., being the very best you can be), be sure to maintain an unwavering focus and mindset that you will overcome any and all obstacles along the way.  Commit yourself to confront any metaphoric walls that may stand between you and your objectives by climbing over, digging under, going around or if necessary blasting through those walls — as if you are an out-of-control freight train.

Look for ways to join forces with like-minded others in your mission, quest, pursuit or endeavor and synergistically collaborate with them such that you will collectively . . .

Be Unstoppable

Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now

Looking in your eyes I see a paradise
This world that I’ve found is too good to be true
Standing here beside you, want so much to give you
This love in my heart that I’m feeling for you

Let ’em say we’re crazy, I don’t care about that
Put your hand in my hand baby, don’t ever look back
Let the world around us just fall apart
Baby, we can make it if we’re heart to heart

And we can build this thing together
Standing strong forever
Nothing’s gonna stop us now

And if this world runs out of lovers
We’ll still have each other
Nothing’s gonna stop us
Nothing’s gonna stop us now

I’m so glad I found you, I’m not gonna lose you
Whatever it takes I will stay here with you
Take it to the good times, see you through the bad times
Whatever it takes, here’s what I’m gonna do

Let ’em say we’re crazy, what do they know
Put your arms around me baby, don’t ever let go
Let the world around us just fall apart
Baby, we can make it if we’re heart to heart

And we can build this thing together
Standing strong forever
Nothing’s gonna stop us now

And if this world runs out of lovers
We’ll still have each other
Nothing’s gonna stop us
Nothing’s gonna stop us

Ooh, all that I need is you
All that I ever need
And all that I want to do
Is hold you forever, ever and ever

And we can build this thing together
Standing strong forever
Nothing’s gonna stop us now

And if this world runs out of lovers
We’ll still have each other
Nothing’s gonna stop us
Nothing’s gonna stop us

And we can build this thing together
Standing strong forever
Nothing’s gonna stop us now

And if this world runs out of lovers
We’ll still have each other
Nothing’s gonna stop us

And we can build this thing together
Standing strong forever
Nothing’s gonna stop us now

And if this world runs out of lovers
We’ll still have each other
Nothing’s gonna stop us

And we can build this thing together
Standing strong forever
Nothing’s gonna stop us now

Take Their Breath Away

Take Their Breath Away

Take pride in all your pursuits such that in the end you “take their breath away“.  It doesn’t matter what horrific setbacks you may realize along the way, as long as you learn from what happened, modify your approach and remain laser-focused on what you are looking to achieve.  It is those seemingly impossible situations where you refuse to give up and finally reach what once appeared to be elusive that become truly . . .

breath-taking

The Importance of Trust

Trust is difficult to earn, but easy to lose, and regaining lost trust can be like un-ringing a bell.  And this is for good reason, because betrayed trust can wreak havoc on those who are betrayed, as there is typically an inherent vulnerability that is exploited, and can thus inflict great harm.  In fact, according to 13th century philosopher, Dante Alighieri, in his classic Inferno, betraying the trust of another is a greater sin than premeditated murder.

The related concepts that ensue are deliberately presented in a generalized format, so they may be readily applied to a range of circumstances.

Establishing vs. Regaining Trust

Establishing trust is a difficult enough task when starting with a “clean slate”; however, to regain the trust of others you once had, the task may be arduous, if not impossible.  And whether you’re able to ultimately succeed comes down to legitimacy and perseverance.

Legitimacy

If others distrust you because something with which you are associated goes awry, your ability to regain their trust will hinge on whether it was legitimately lost.   If you duped, manipulated, defrauded, or otherwise misled others, you’ve not got a snowball’s chance in hell of ever regaining their trust . . . nor should you.

However, if you were victimized by fraud and others were also impacted, they may blame you for the collateral damage thus experienced.  Notwithstanding, in such a situation, it is possible to regain their trust; but only if you are committed to do so.  While this may be difficult, you WILL succeed, as long as you have the TRUTH on your side and you don’t give up.

Why You MUST Persevere

If there is legitimacy to your quest, your only chance to regain the trust of others will hinge on whether you are able to reveal the truth, expose those responsible for the fraud, and hold them accountable for their misdeeds.  For if you don’t do so, your reputation will be forever sullied and the path toward resurrecting your reputation and regaining the trust you seek will become an insurmountable slippery slope.  Moreover, those responsible for the fraud will only be further emboldened to defraud others in an increasingly audacious manner . . .  such is the behavioral psychology of bullies.

What If Someone Betrays YOUR Trust

However, if someone you’ve trusted and relied upon “to have your back” ends up stabbing you in the back, you can NEVER trust them again.  You should forgive them . . .  but NEVER again trust them.  Hence, the sayings “Fool me once, shame on you . . .  Fool me twice, shame on me” and “You can’t change the spots on a leopard”.

And If YOU Betray Someone’s Trust

Also keep in mind if you betray the trust of others by abdicating your values and principles, that’s a bed you’re going to have to sleep in for the rest of your life – and in which you’ll have to sleep with one eye open from that point forward – for as the saying goes: “What goes around, comes around”, while others call it “Bad Karma”  And while a self-actualized person will not seek revenge, there are plenty of others who will believe there is nothing sweeter.

The hilarious comedy sketch below illustrates these points well.

When Facing Obstacles

You may find yourself confronted by a problem whose resolution is elusive because of the existence of obstacles that simply won’t go away.  You may have tried every approach one would normally employ to gain resolution; however, you just can’t seem to get around those obstacles, and that darn problem keeps on staring you in the face . . . and with a mocking grin on its face.  So what then should you do?

Focus on the root cause of your problem, and confront it head on, but be sure to “think outside the box”, employ entirely unconventional means, and do the unexpected.   You just might find yourself gracefully sailing over those once daunting obstacles, as depicted in the below video . . . and sticking the landing.
